clog and lapotle

The clog and lapot:
Walking life together

Nadia&Tjerk-logo-black_edited_edited.png

Dutch clog and Russian lapot are more than just shoes. For us, they symbolize our rich cultural heritage and a nod to our unique journey together.

Clogs are traditional wooden shoes that originated in the Netherlands. Crafted from a single piece of wood, clogs were indispensable for farmers and laborers, protecting their feet from wet, muddy conditions. Clogs date back to the early 13th century and were known for their durability and functionality. Today, clogs frequently worn during cultural festivals and celebrated for their unique craftsmanship.

Lapot, known in Russia as "lapti," are traditional shoes made from bast, the inner bark of trees such as linden and birch. These shoes have been a staple in Russian rural life for centuries, particularly before the widespread availability of leather footwear. Lapti were lightweight and breathable, making them suitable for the agrarian lifestyle. They were often woven in different patterns to indicate the wearer's village or social status.

Combining clog and lapot, we create a unique fusion of Dutch and Russian traditions. Just as these shoes have been meticulously crafted and adorned with care, our relationship has been built with the same dedication and attention to detail. As we step into our new life together, we carry with us the legacy and love represented by these symbolic shoes, weaving our unique heritage into our shared journey.

Now get ready for an amazing night and put on your dancing shoes!
